Total Film's Greatest 2012 Movie Posters

This is just a list of random entries from Total Film's list of 50 that Empire didn't include in their list, (you can see the whole list here 50 Greatest 2012 Movie Posters

Haul: Part One

Origin: Spirits of the Past (Keiichi Sugiyama, 2006), £3
Faster (George Tillman. Jr, 2010), £3
The Reaping (Stephen Hopkins, 2007), £3
Sucker Punch (Zack Snyder, 2011), £3
The Bone Collector (Phillip Noyce, 1999), £3
The Fifth Element (Luc Besson, 1997), £3
This Christmas (Preston A. Whitmore II, 2007), £3

I was so happy when HMV began accepting gift cards again as I had some money left over from Christmas, so on Tuesday I went to my local store and spent an hour browsing the shelves for some goodies. Sucker Punch was the only one I had already seen, I did a review on it early last year (I'll redo it at some point) but I loved it so much that I just had to buy it. I bought Faster the week before I bought the rest when HMV stopped accepting gift cards.
My best friend and her mum are always on at me to watch The Fifth Element but I never bothered but when I saw it in HMV I thought why not and the rest were just films that caught my eye while I was browsing and I thought might be interesting

My sister had a bit of a wardrobe clear-out the other day so I had a look through the bags to what I could steal for myself and I found this dress, the print on it says 'Love is Hard' and apparently it's a size 14 but it fits more like a 10-12. I already have something similar from H&M without the print but it's a size 12. My dog print vest from Choies which I did an outfit post with.
I got my crayon scribble jeans (as I like to call them) last week in the sale at H&M, I had seen them before but I never buy jeans from H&M because the sizes are weird on me. I tried them on and like all of my jeans they're a little big (not sure what size they actually are), but I thought I might as well get them. The skirt was a nice little surprise gift I got this week, it's in a size 8 because I tend to wear my skirts quite high waisted.

So that's some of the stuff I bought in the past few weeks. I'll do part two when I get my New Look parcel.
Let me know what you think :)

Empire's 2013 Oscar Winner Predictions

In exactly one month the Academy Awards will grace our screens (Sunday, February 24th) so I thought I would do a post on who Empire Magazine thinks will take home the award (Issue 283).

Best Picture
The Life of PI, Lincoln, Hitchcock, Les Misérables

Best Actress
Jennifer Lawrence, Naomi Watts, Quvenshané Wallis

Silver Linings Playbook, The Impossible, Beasts of the Southern Wild

Best Director
Ben Affleck- Argo

Best Supporting Actor
Tom Hanks- Cloud Atlas

Best Supporting Actress
Halle Berry- Cloud Atlas

Best Actor
Clint Eastwood, Denzel Washington, John Hawkes

Hitchcock is the only one out of the four that didn't receive a nomination for Best Picture. For me it's between Argo, Les Misérables, Lincoln and possibly Zero Dark Thirty and Django Unchained. By the way I've not actually seen any of these films yet (bad film student I know) so I don't know how good they are, but I am definitely going to watch Hitchcock when it's released.

Ben Affleck wasn't even nominated for an Oscar (such a shame), but you must read this article on How To Fix Oscar's Baffling Snub of Ben Affleck.
All three of the actresses’ received nominations, neither Tom Hanks or Halle Berry were nominated for the Best Supporting Awards and from the actors the only one to receive a nomination was Denzel Washington for his role in Flight, which is out February 1.

A full list of the categories and nominees can be found here: Oscar 2013 Nominees.

P.S. I accidently deleted all my replies to the lovely comments I received now it looks like I ignore everyone's comments (oops).

Rottweiler

Just a couple of pictures for my first outfit post, I got my dad to take them on his phone so sorry for the crappy lighting and my awkward face and poses.

Blazer: H&M, £7 (reduced from £30)
Dog Print Vest: Choies, $36.99 (reduced from £73.98)
Faux Leather Skirt: River Island (similar)
Chelsea Boots: Linzi

I'm in love with this top, I could never afford the Givenchy one so this is perfect. I ordered it on the 4th and it came around the 9/10th but I missed the delivery (I wasn't expecting it to get here so fast), when I finally went to pick it up I couldn't wait to open it.
The material is quite stretchy and feels thicker then most vest tops, which was especially good for today because of the cold and snow. It's actually quite long on me probably around where the skirt ends, I wasn't sure what size to get so I just got a medium and I love the fit, I just tuck the top in a bit so it's not as long.
The shoes and the skirt were Christmas presents from my parents and the blazer was from a shopping trip down to Basildon.

Thanks for reading, sorry again about the lighting. Let me know what you think.

366 Films - 3 Years

So a couple of weeks back was my blogs 3rd birthday so I thought I’d do another small reflection post but this time about the movies that have helped make my blog.

In the 3 years since I started my goal to watch 100 films I’d never seen before in one year, I’ve managed to watch a grand total of 366, 103 in 2010, 140 in 2011 and 123 in 2012.

Some of the films from 2010 were given to me by my teaches at sixth-form or we watched them during class, while the majority of the films in 2011 and 12 are films that we were required to watch for the modules on my film course at university. I’ve seen some amazing films and I’ve seen some terrible films but it’s been a good ride.

Since my original goal to watch 100 films I’ve not made another one because Uni has taken over my life and I don’t have enough free time, although I do watch most films that I’ve never seen before at Uni so it would be an easier task. I would like to make another goal to watch 200 movies but I don’t know if I’ll actually get round to it.

To round off the films I watched last year here the list for December:

The Conformist (Bernardo Bertolucci, 1970)
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2(Bill Condon, 2012)
The A-Team (Joe Carnahan, 2010)
Noel (Chazz Palminteri, 2004)
A Boyfriend For Christmas (Kevin Connor,2004)
Transporter 3(Olivier Megaton, 2008)
The Holiday (Nancy Meyers, 2006)
G-Force (Hoyt Yeatman, 2009)
Planet of the Apes (Franklin Schaffner, 1968)

Scriptwriting Celtx: Part 2

Back in November I did a post on the scriptwriting program Celtx and since then I've handed in both my projects an adaptation and black comedy-ish (I think, still not sure what genre it is), so far I've got a B for the adaptation and the other one hasn't been marked yet.
Now back to Celtx.

Celtx has apps for iPad/iPhone and Android for use on the go no matter where you are.

Script

This is just like the desktop version but on the ipad/iphone and Android. So now when a script idea comes to you, you can get it down straight away. It's not free but it's not a ridiculous pric, and if you're serious about scriptwriting I sure you won't mind paying for it.

iTunes- £6.99
Android- £6.29

Scout
Scout lets you take pictures of things you find that could be used in your project, locations, props and actors. You can add your own comments and the people you're working with can add comments. Again it's not free but it's cheaper then Script.

iTunes- £2.99
Android- £3.14

Shots

This is the storyboarding app but it also lets you create camera and lighting set-ups. It also syncs with your desktop so you can look at them from home. Unlike the others this app is only available on iTunes.

iTunes- £2.99

Sides

Sides makes it easy for you to learn your character, zero in on your dialog, and get all the important production details.

iTunes- £2.99
Android- £3.13

Reflection

Yey!! Finally both essays have been submitted but I feel awful about them (so no change there then), now I have a bit of time to relax and get some more posts sorted out.

I'm crazy happy with my blog now. After 3 years of blogging over 100 posts, I've finally gained 4 whole followers (yey me), although there could be more (I'm not quite sure how that feedburner thing actually works). I've finally had over 1000 views, it actually probably way below that because until sometime last year I didn't realise it was tracking my own views.

I don't know what I was thinking 100 posts ago or even 50 posts, I was just writing my thoughts on the films I watched and that's all. I didn't really know about following other blogs and I didn't read any other blogs. I just thought that if I wrote a post people would come running. I feel like part of the reason I lost interest in blogging was because I wasn't getting any results, I wasn't commenting on other blogs, I wasn't advertising my blog. I wasn't doing much really.

I probably started following blogs around April of last year and reading them made me realise that I wasn't really happy with what I was doing and in May I decided to take a break. I'm glad I did because it gave me the chance to figure out what I wanted to achieve (and time to redesign my blog look) and I'm getting there. There are still some things I want to do like fashion but I don't think I'll use this blog for that and I would love to do giveaways, if I had anything to giveaway, but I'll see where things take me.

So Happy belated 3rd Birthday to The Movie Life Of JP!!

Total Films 50 Most Hated Movies Ever Made: Part 2

(by Simon Kinnear for Total Film) Read it here

24. Pearl Harbour (2000)
23. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003)
22. Battlefield Earth (2000)
21. The Wicker Man (2006)

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, awful just plain awful. I've watched it so many times hoping that it'll finally make sense but I always feel like I've missed something. I wasn't a big fan of the original Wicker Man, it was okay but it isn't something I'd watch again if I had a choice. I've not seen this film but I don't imagine this version being any good

20. X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
19. Aliens vs Predator (2004)
18. Highlander 2: The Quickening (1991)
17. Love Actually (2003)

The only one I've seen is X3 and I need someone to explain to me what happened.

16. Hulk (2003)
15. Catwoman (2004)
14. Avatar (2009)
13. Lady In The Water (2006)

Hulk, now this is one I'll always remember. Massive mutated dogs. That is all. Now with Catwoman as awful as it is I actually really love it; and I don't know why because it is really awful.
I really loved Avatar the only downside was that it was way too long for my liking.

12. The Happening (2008)
11. The Last Airbender (2010)
10. Die Another Day (2002)
9. House Of The Dead (2003)

The Happening, I love it! I'm in love with Mark Wahlberg so it had to be watched. I actually thought the story was really interesting, but the acting wasn't very strong in some parts mostly with Zooey Deschanel's character.
Another M. Night Shyamalan film with The Last Airbender. The cartoon was really good so I think everyone (I certainly did) expected the film to deliver... and it didn't. It just felt like it was unfinished, so much more could and should have been done to make it amazing.
Don't hate me I actually really like Die Another Day, I know it's probably the worst Bond film but I really like it especially the opening credits and the theme song by Madonna.

8. Titanic (1997)
7. Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (2009)
6. Batman and Robin (1997)
5. Psycho (1998)

Titanic one of the most hated movies ever made? Really?

4. Twilight (2008)
3. Forest Gump (1994)
2. Star Wars Episode 1- The Phantom Menace (1999)
1. Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull (2008)

I would have been shocked if Twilight hadn't been on this list. I personally love Twilight, but I can totally see why some people hate it and I agree that they're not the best of films but I don't care.

This list confused me I didn't expect some films to make it on to the list such as Titanic, I just can't believe that out of all the films that have been made Titanic is one of the most hated.
