Green Lantern (Martin Campbell, 2011)
Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, Tim Robbins and Geoffrey Rush
Summary: Reckless test pilot Hal Jordan is granted an alien ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers that inducts him into an intergalactic police force, the Green Lantern Corps.
Genre: Sci-fi, Action, Adventure
To be honest I wasn't actually interested in watching this film but my friend really wanted to see it, so I took her to see it for her birthday.
I felt like it definitely took a while for the story to really get going; however in saying that it also felt like they were trying to explain way to much in an incredibly short space of time.
I'm not really a fan of Ryan Reynolds, I haven't seen him in much but in this film I thought he was absolutely awful and I didn't know much about Blake Lively (I never watched Gossip Girl, is that bad?)
I do love a good special effect but I struggled to find it in this film. There's quite a lot of CGI and most of it is unnecessary, especially the CGI bodysuits, I mean whose idea was that. It looks absolutely terrible.
If you're like me then you'll love a good action scene, a good fight scene but don't get your hopes up guys the final battle is over before it even starts. So much time was wasted at the beginning they didn't even have time for a decent fight was probably the worse thing about the film.
Kim Newman's review for Empire pretty much sums up what I feel about it,
"When the climax comes it feels less apocalyptic then just rushed, as the hero goes from complete wash-out to standing up to a primal force of the universe in about five minutes"

Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (Rob Marshall, 2011)
Cast: Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Sam Claflin, Geoffrey Rush, Kevin McNally
Summary: Jack Sparrow and Barbossa embark on a quest to find the elusive fountain of youth, only to discover that Blackbeard and his daughter are after it too.
Genre: Action, Fantasy, Adventure
I absolutely loved the first two Pirate films (The Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man's Chest), but I didn't really get into At World's End and I thought it tended to drag a bit; but I still found myself excited to watch this new one.
However I must say that I didn't think this film would be as good as the previous ones as both Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly were not in it, but I think it was actually pretty good.
I wasn't 100% convinced with Penelope Cruz's character, there's clearly some kind of back story between her and Jack and I think they could have gone into a bit more detail as to what happened between them. Johnny Depp was excellent as usual but I don't think Penelope Cruz was quite able to match up to him.
Overall I thought it was a good film and I'm certainly excited to see the next one.
Also shame on you to those in the same screening as me who didn’t stay to watch the scene at the end of the film; real fans know that there has been a scene at the end of all the films.
